Honeymoon Pictures

Kelly's blog is always featuring these cool "Show us your Life" posts on Fridays but I have never taken part of one. Friday's are my special day off with Emersyn and I try not to be on the computer much. BUT I have been able to enjoy more time off with Emersyn due to my accident, SO I decided to take part of the fun today!

Today's subject is wedding receptions and honeymoons. I don't have any pics of our reception available to scan but I was able to dig up some honeymoon ones!

Brett and I went to Vegas and Seattle for our honeymoon! We were young when we got married (22) and didn't have a lot of money at the time to spend on a vacation. I didn't care though, I couldn't have asked for a better time!!

We got married on Friday, May 16th. We stayed in downtown Portland at "The Paramount" hotel, which was very romantic and wonderful. We left for Vegas on Saturday. It was so much fun having a husband to wake up next to and go to breakfast with, help me carry luggage, sit next to on the plane and hold hands, etc. *sigh* I love love. Anyways, we got into Vegas on Saturday afternoon and checked into the Monte Carlo, where we had a suite. It had TWO bathrooms!!! It was stunning and we were able to stay there for 4 nights. We had so much fun enjoying our room (hee hee), the hotel's pool and lazy river, and all that Vegas had to offer. We loved walking around the hotels (I had never been to Vegas before, other then a quick stop once) and exploring the shopping and amazing decorations and gardens. We even watched the American Idol finale (the year Reuben won) from the comfort of our deluxe suite.

Outside our hotel.

To be 22 again.....I love the way my ring looks brand spankin' new and shiny. :)

My favorite experience in Vegas had to be running out of money though. It was the day before we left and we went down to the McDonald's in our casino to get breakfast. Our debit card was declined! We called the bank and realized that we had spent more money then we thought in the week before the wedding, where the expenses really seem to add up and multiply. We called my maid of honor and she went into our apartment and got a check that we had gotten for the wedding and went and deposited it on our bank account. Still, our bank had some lame 24 hour policy about money being available once you deposited it so we were on our own. At our reception, one of the men at our church had shaken Brett's hand to congratulate him and slipped him a $100 bill. Seriously the coolest move ever, I want Brett to do that to someone else someday. So anyways, we had the $100 and that was it! We budgeted out the meals we needed from then until we left, plus cab fare and realized that money was tight and we were going to have to find cheap entertainment. We did! We walked down to the Bellagio fountains and had one of the most romantic nights imaginable. We just watched the fountains and cuddled and people watched and talked and it was so much better then any expensive show or gondola ride. It was a night we will never forget. We watched the fountains for about 3 hours, no joke. They are mesmerizing and incredible.

We made it back safely at home and got our money situation figured out. :) We decided to be home for a couple days and then head up to Seattle. While we were home we opened our wedding presents with Brett's parents, had dinner with my parents, and got our apartment put together. SO fun!

We bought our first couch and coffee table at a discount furniture place in downtown Portland. The coffee table was so cool, it opened and we stored tons of games and blankets in it. The couch was a piece of junk but we loved it at the time and the price was right, $399. Folks, you get what you pay for. :)

On Friday night we headed up to Seattle where we stayed at a Marriott using points from my parents. We went to Macy's (didn't have those yet in Portland), ate at the Cheesecake Factory for the first time (again, didn't have those in Portland yet, now we do) and enjoyed getting to spend so much time together. Saturday we went to Ikea to load up on all the essentials that we now needed as a newly married couple, including a bed frame!! We did not calculate how we were going to get the bed frame home however. Initially we tied it to the top of our Mazda Protege 5 wagon but after being on the freeway for about 10 minutes, we both were freaked out and had fears of it coming loose and flying off the top of our car, causing a major pile up on I-5 south. We pulled over and unpacked the frame and crammed it into the back of our car and strapped the back door down, it would not close. We drove for nearly 3 hours, freezing, listening to loudly flapping plastic, and attempting to listen to music.

So fun.

Our honeymoon wasn't fancy or glamorous but it was one of the best weeks of my life!! :) I like to think that we are still on our honeymoon....hard to believe that was six years ago.

Happy Friday everyone, have a wonderful weekend!!

Okay, of all the comment I've gotten, yours just now, caused a big bubble of laughter to just explode out of me. That was hilarious.

That was too much.

Oh, I could just go crazy with ideas for parties. For Ava's first party, we did a butterfly theme. I traced a basic butterfly shape onto parchment paper, then melted those colored meltaway chocolates you can buy in the craft store and put them into piping bags and made butterfly wings, then I decorated a simple white layered cake with tons of these butterflies made from sticking the wings into the icing. Yeah, I go for the big "Ohh, ahh." It was a little overboard, but the first birthday is a big deal!

I say do something like pick a color theme. For example, I did an orange party once, where the foods were orange, the drinks were orange, and the birthday girl wore an orange tee with a big number on the front. That is pretty simple and fun.

You could do a fun candy party too. Buy and gather clear glass containers and jars of all sizes, and just fill them with fun candies in all bright colors and them give guests something cute to put them in (like a clear container from the craft store) and they can also use it as a take home item/favor. (rock candy sticks are super fun with a little tag saying the date, and thanks for attending)

Cute cupcakes are always a hit. Seriously, I have about twenty more ideas in my head... Good luck, can't wait to see the sweet party!

Oh, and if you did the candy party, you could do a sweet co-ordinating "candy" iron-on transfer to a simple tee that says "Sweet" or something like that too, and put a little gumdrop on top of mini cupcakes for the kids. (since a on year old won't be eating a gumdrop, it's easy to take off before serving)

Great pictures! My hubby and I went to Seattle for our honeymoon, but considering we live in the middle of Nowhere Central US - it was incredible!!! I'd go back in a heartbeat. My Mom grew up in Coos Bay Oregon, and I've always wanted to visit the great Oregonian coast. :)
