Back to reality! :)

Yesterday afternoon we got home from our vacation/mission trip with the youth at our church. We took a five hour nap, no joke and still got to bed at a reasonable time last night. We were pooped. The trip was great though, a LOT of driving, but great. Being pregnant and travelling was interesting but fine for the most part. We were so busy, it kept me good and distracted. The only thing that didn't go well was starting Friday night, my ankles and sweet were super swollen, probably due to the heat and being on my feet so much. They were comical looking though, seriously, they didn't even look like they belonged on my body. Brett noticed them when we were walking down a hall and his eyes bugged as he exclaimed, "Oh my gosh, look at your ankles!!!!!!!". It was amusing to us both but I tried hard to keep them elevated. They were swollen pretty much until this morning and today they are fine. I even have my ankle bone back in sight. It was very interesting.

I know I am growing bigger by the week, which is kind of fun but makes sleeping difficult. I wake up with tremendous hip and lower pelvis pain all during the night. I have talked to my dr. about it and she says it is normal really. It is no fun though but I know it will be all worth it. We are only about 8-10 weeks away from seeing our baby girl. It is a surreal feeling, that is for sure. For so long, we were counting down the days until we left for our trip, now all that is left to count down towards is the baby's arrival. We have SO much to do before she gets here. I have a list posted on the fridge to remind us daily and it will be a good feeling to start checking those things off.

On Friday night, we were in Sacramento and we were lucky enough to get together for dinner with my Grandma, Grandpa, Uncle John, Aunt Marti, Aunt Debbie, and cousins Michelle and Joe. They did a little mini baby shower for me and it was really neat. My Aunt Debbie got us some cute clothes from Macy's, all pink which I LOVE!!!!! My Aunt Marti went crazy at the Trumpette store and got us a darling blingged out piggy bank, I will have to take a picture later. Also, some darling ballet baby socks...

They are even cuter in person!!!

We got some other fun stuff too, including this darling sweater/hat combo...

The most special thing that I got though, was a quilt from my Grandma that was made by Emersyn's Great Great Great Grandma. It has been preserved amazingly and I can't wait to see my daughter in it. It will be a family heirloom for a long long time!

I have a baby shower in my honor this Sunday afternoon. I am pretty excited about that!!!!!!!

Happy Monday everyone!!

The day after tomorrow......

We are headed down to So. Cal the DAY after tomorrow, I can hardly believe it. My head is swimming with all that I have to do! It will feel good to get it all done and get on the road. It is a big trip to pack for, 10 days. Lots of clothes and supplies, that is for sure! :)

Some not so pleasant news, my fasting blood sugar levels in the morning have not been consistently good so I have to give myself insulin shots before bed. I just got all the supplies today and did a practice shot with the nurse. Let me tell you, inserting a syringe into my belly was one of the scariest moments ever but I took a deep breath and thought about Emersyn and was able to just do it. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Unpleasant yes, but not a big deal. I will have to stay way on top of it during my trip and for the rest of my pregnancy. As far as pregnancy complications go though, I would rather have this then a LOT of other conditions. So far I have had such a nice and easy pregnancy, this is all going to be fine. I have been talking to a girl at my church who had GD with all three of her pregnancies so it is nice to know I am not the only one out there that is or has had to deal with this. Keep praying for Emersyn and I, that we have a safe journey until September 4th or sometime around then! :)

Happy Monday!!

Today is June 9th, can you believe it?? Time is flying by, that is for sure!

We had a great weekend! I got my much anticipated mani/pedi on Saturday and it was wonderful. Saturday night we went to Brett's parent's house to celebrate his mom's bday and we made an ice cream cake for dessert. It was DELICIOUS!!! Yesterday we got some stuff done around the house and went to a meeting for our trip that is coming up at the end of THIS week!!
On Friday, we got the wooden letters that we ordered off of Ebay for the nursery. We painted them, about 5 coats (should have primed them first but oh well) and hung them up. We think it looks pretty cute!!

I am so annoyed, my camera has like water spots on it. I need to get that cleaned before our trip this week! But the room looks soooooo cute! We have been really blessed to find some great deals and really have been able to be frugal in decorating this nursery. Yay for good deals! :)
Good news, my blood sugar has been totally normal ever since I have been testing it this week. I am really happy about that! It appears the gestational diabetes is good and under control. It will be a challenge eating out so much on our trip but I will do just fine, I am sure.
Have a great week everyone! :)

Third Trimester!!!!

Hi Everyone!

Today I am 27 weeks and from what I read, that is the beginning of the third trimester. Whoo hoo! Time is flying along. A week from tomorrow Brett and I head down to California with about 60 high schoolers and a full band to minister in the So Cal area and some stops along the way. Brett and I grew up in this youth choir and who would have thought that one day we would fall in love and get married? It is really fun to go as adults now, we get our own hotel room and have a lot of responsibility which can be tiring but is a blessing. I will have to make sure and bring good snacks and stay hydrated, that is for sure. Many people think I am crazy for going, 7 months pregnant and all but I will manage just fine. :)

I found out this week that I have a mild case of gestational diabetes. Because of the hormones secreted in the placenta, my body isn't converting the glucose into energy which is making me lethargic and could have negative effects on the baby. This week was the first time in my entire pregnancy that I had a moment of freaking out about the baby and her health. But I had a good appointment with a diabetic councelor and found out that it is only while pregnant, it isn't something I have to live with forever, and it is very managable. It isn't horribly uncommon and apparently diabetes runs in my family which puts me at risk as well. You are also at risk if you are over 25 when you have your first baby. That made me feel kinda old. The good news is, I won't gain too much weight during this pregnancy with good modified eating habits. The bad news, I have to prick my finger and do the blood testing fairly frequently. It is a small price to pay to make sure Miss Emersyn arrives safe and sound though!

Looking forward to getting a mani/pedi this week at my new favorite place, the Aveda Institute of Portland. They have a school here and offer discounted SPA services. I got an amazing haircut last week for $13. Yes, you read right. $13. It came complete with a head/shoulder massage and great Aveda products and styling. I am going to get another cut and color the week before the baby is born. Cut and color is only $43 total. My old stylist was charging me $50 just for the haircut! I am kinda happy she moved to California and I discovered this new place. The girl I went to is adorable and doesn't graduate until December so I will continue to use her until she leaves. I am getting a mani/pedi for $25. I am sorry if this is boring to you but I love a good deal almost as much as I love a mani/pedi!!!!

Happy Thursday!

Updated Nursery Pictures

These pictures are probably a repeat for my facebook and myspace friends but since part of the reason for keeping this blog is like a journal, I have to keep it up to date! :)
We are almost done with the nursery. We got a rug, not sure how we feel about it yet. We also got some shelves for above the changing table, ordered some letters spelling out "Emersyn Grace" that we will paint and hang them, and then some various accessories throughout her room. It is a lot of fun to decorate!
Emersyn's future husband was born over the weekend!! :) Congrats Tiff and Travis! We are so happy for you and can't wait to meet Riley!!
